No, this isn't a blog post about a widely sung Disney song. This is a post about something every human being has, or rather, can choose to have: grudges, hate, anger, and ignorance.
When I was younger, all I would do was try to be better than everyone else, but my version of better was different. I thought that I would have to put all the people around me down, and that would raise me up. I started with my siblings. I didn't treat the older ones with nearly as much respect as I should have, and I bossed around the younger ones. I wasn't turning into a very good person, and I had to go through some serious trials to overcome this terrible and negative habit. I didn't know then, but I wasn't a positive influence on the world, I was a negative one.
I know now that what I did was wrong, that there was another way. I learned that service to others is what turns you into a better person, or rather, the first step to become better than you are now. There were some things that my siblings said to me, but I figured that if they could forgive me for being a bad person, I could do the same. So, I let go of the bad, negative memories. I did my best to try and only see the positive things in them, and pretty soon, we had better relationships. As soon as I realized what this way of thinking led to, I decided to try it out at school. And it worked.
My life became less stressful and worrisome; while it was harder to see positive things, the positive consequences were well worth it. So, I advise you reader, to do the same. I'm sure that you're a good person already, but I know that there will always be a way to be better than you were yesterday. So all of that hatred and judging you have on people nowadays, or even those who support (or don't support) our president, I say this: Let it Go. Let go of all the negativity, and focus on positive things. You won't be able to do it immediately, but I promise you that it will happen over time. All the greatest things take time.
The inspiration I had for this post came from this talk from a General Authority from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I hope you'll want to watch it yourself.
